Student auctions off virginity (Pair work)

1.       Utilitarianism view

Jairus: Yes it is right, if selling her virginity is a key to her happiness then she should. She is right with what she is doing. People have different beliefs and for her it is alright to sell her virginity.

Nelson: No it is not right, because she is just forced to sell her virginity so that she will be able to get her master’s degree. She is not totally happy with what she will do because there are other ways but this is the only one she can think of and it is immoral to do something like this.

2.       Categorical Imperative view

Nelson: Yes it is right, because in a categorical imperative’s view she is just doing her duty to fulfil what she wants. She will don’t have to worry about the consequences because she is willing to do something for the own benefit.

Jairus: No it is wrong, because there are consequences that she would not be able to retrieve. Virginity is a sign of purity, once her virginity is gone there is no way getting it back. The consequences are there because she also puts her reputation and dignity on the line.

3.       Master –and –Slave Morality view

Jairus: Yes it is right; a belief in master morality is they are the creators of value. If she thinks that selling her virginity is an okay action then there is no one to stop her. It is her right to think what is best for her.

Nelson: No, it s wrong, because although she creates her own value, that doesn’t give her right give something that is pure for her. It is unacceptable to the society and it is an immoral act.

4.       Golden Mean view

Nelson: Yes it is right, because her virtue is pure to gain her happiness. Although she needs money, that money will be used for her happiness to continue what she wants.

Jairus: No, it is wrong; happiness is not her main goal. If given another way to complete her task she would do so. She badly needs the money to fund her MBA. She uses means not really worth doing.
